Introduction of DCF Code

The flingDCF transmission tower and spare transmission tower are located in Mainen (latitude: 50°01' N, longitude: 09°00' E), about 25km southeast of Frankfurt. Since 1959, DCF77 has served as a standard frequency. Since 1973, time and date information has been added. The DCF transmission power is 50kW and the transmission frequency is 77.5kHz. 

The DCF signal is transmitted through sky waves and ground waves. Within 500km, the transmission is mainly through ground waves; in the range of 600~1100km, both sky waves and ground waves; beyond 1100km, mainly rely on sky waves. Beyond 2000km, it is only an example that the signal can be received effectively.（D = german; C = long wave signal; F = Frankfurt; 77 = frequency）

According to the situation of daylight saving time, the broadcasting time of DCF is UTC+1 or UTC+2 (summer time is on). 

DCF encoding format

The pulse period of each bit of DCF encoding is 1 second, 60 bits per frame, and the frame period is 60 seconds. There are only two types of square wave pulse widths for DCF encoding, 100ms and 200ms. 100ms means 0, 200ms means 1.
